A nightmare performance at Sun City, where QUEEN revived in "THE WORKS" was knocked down to the bottom of the abyss. A phantom show where only anecdotes have been walking alone for a long time. The complete stereo sound board recording that tells the truth is brushed up and reprinted.
[Nightmare that was the exact opposite of LIVE AID]
This show is a huge stain in the entire history of QUEEN. Currently, the miracle of "LIVE AID" is attracting attention in the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody", but the Sun City performance was the first stage, and it was a show that can be said to be the opposite. The problem wasn't the content of the live (which I'll discuss later, but rather a terrible stage), but in a place called Sun City. This is a luxury resort in South Africa. At that time, the country was isolated from the whole world by the infamous apartheid policy. He was banished not only from economic sanctions but also from the Olympics, and the United Nations called for a cultural boycott. Under such circumstances, it was QUEEN who forced the tour to break the ban. First, let's check the position of such a tour on the schedule at that time.
● 1984
"February 27," THE WORKS "released"
・ August 24-September 30: Europe (23 performances)
・ October 5-20: South Africa (9 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
● 1985
・ January 11 + 18: ROCK IN RIO (2 performances)
・ April 13-29: Oceania (9 performances)
・ May 8-15: Japan (5 performances)
・ July 13: LIVE AID
This is the flow from "THE WORKS" to the miracle "LIVE AID". In South Africa, all nine performances were held only in Sun City. Brian May said, "I decided to think about it for almost a year" and "I wanted to help people who are doing anti-apartheid movements". But the whole world did not allow this. Speaking of October 1985, the anti-apartheid single "Sun City", in which as many as 50 famous musicians participated, is in the midst of being talked about. For that reason, QUEEN's actions caught the eye of the world, and his reputation suddenly fell and he was the target of fierce bashing. Moreover, QUEEN at that time had a jerky relationship between the members, and this bashing forced him to the point of being disbanded. It was the exact opposite of "LIVE AID" in terms of both the reaction of the world and the subsequent trends.
