CHICAGO in 2003 made a big hit with "THE VERY BEST OF CHICAGO: ONLY THE BEGINNING" released on the Rhino label and made his 10th visit to Japan. Introducing a live album where you can experience the scene with the best sound.
"January 27, 2003: Nagoya performance" is recorded in this work. It is the best audience recording. Speaking of the biggest point of this work, the overwhelming sound quality and the Greatest Hits covered with the representative songs. Before touching on the contents, let's first confirm the position of the show from the monumental visit schedule of the 10th time.
・ January 27: Aichi Prefectural Art Theater [this work]
・ January 28: Shizuoka Culture Hall
・ January 29: Osaka Festival Hall
・ January 31: Tokyo International Forum
・ February 1: Tokyo International Forum
Above, all 5 performances. At that time, they hadn't released a new original work since "TWENTY 1" in 1991, but they still show their deep-rooted popularity. The Nagoya performance of this work was the concert on the first day.
This work that recorded such a show is exactly the audience recording of the best sound. It's an original master only for this work, which was handed over from the recorder himself, but anyway, the crystal clear transparency is exquisite. Despite the large group of eight people who also participated in the tour members, the performance sounds of each person are not lumpy and are drawn delicately. Especially wonderful is the horn. Perhaps it's the balance of the on-site PA, it's far ahead of the rhythm section and vocals, and I don't feel a sense of distance. The mid-high range is beautifully extended, and even the breathing of James, Lee, and Walter is clear. The rhythm section doesn't come out that far, but the vividness doesn't change.
