Bowie in 1997 who traveled around the world with "EARTHLING" that opened up a new horizon. An exquisite live album by the newly excavated DAT master is now available.
The new master included "September 13, 1997 Los Angeles performance". It is a full audience recording recorded at the late famous venue "Universal Audi Theater". This show was one of the most famous performances among maniacs, called "the best show in Bowie's career". First, let's check the position of such a show on the schedule at that time.
"February 3" EARTHLING "released"
・ May 17th-June 5th: Warm up (4 performances)
・ June 7-August 14: Europe (46 performances)
・ September 6-October 23: North America (29 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ October 31st-November 7th: South America (5 performances)
This is Bowie in 1997. After visiting the main Europe in the summer, he went to the United States in the beginning of autumn. The Los Angeles performance of this work is the concert that corresponds to the 6th performance of the "North America" leg. The "Universal Amphitheater" will be held for two consecutive nights, and this is the second performance.
This work, which recorded such a show, is a truly exquisite audience recording. It's not a close-fitting sound that can be mistaken for a sound board, but I don't really feel the distance. The air is crystal clear and transparent, the strong core jumps straight into your hand, and the details are vivid. The "Universal Amphitheater" is an indoor venue, but for some reason I can hardly feel the response from the venue. The tone has a sense of distance that is typical of an audience, but the sound of the hall does not blur it. It sounds as powerful and crisp as the latest outdoor festival recordings.
