The world premiere master who carved the legendary first visit to Japan is an archaeological excavation. "May 14, 1973: Nippon Budokan Performance" is included in this work. This Japan tour was the first visit to the legendary trio BBA and was Jeff Beck's first visit to Japan. First, let's look back on the schedule at that time.
・ May 14: Nippon Budokan [this work]
・ May 16: Nagoya Civic Center
・ May 18: Osaka Kosei Nenkin Kaikan * Official
・ May 19: Osaka Kosei Nenkin Kaikan * Official
Above, all 4 performances. While the traditional official live album was produced from the final performance in Osaka, the Nippon Budokan of this work is the first day. It was Jeff's first Japanese stage.
Such Nippon Budokan performances have been conveyed by numerous audience recordings such as "TOKYO BUDOKAN TAPES", "TRAIN KEPT A ROLLIN'", and "FIRST LIVE IN JAPAN" for a long time. Currently, the highest peak is "ENCOUNTER VELOCITY (Wardour-088)", but this work is a master different from any of them. It is a new excavation of the century that was made into a CD directly from the original cassette that was kept secret by a famous recording artist representing Japan.
Moreover, this work is not just the first public release. Its quality is also wonderful, setting a new record high. Since the texture is different from each recording such as "ENCOUNTER VELOCITY", I can't easily talk about the superiority or inferiority, but to say the least, "it's much easier to listen to than the existing group". The most wonderful thing is the thick "core", the fat and rich "sound", and the glossy "smoothness". Even if the existing group is good, the sound is solid, there is a little distance, and the bass is cracked. Under such circumstances, I felt like I was looking for an advantage, saying, "The guitar stands out" and "The vocals are clear." However, in this work, the thick performance and vocals are approaching in front of me. It has a powerful sound with plenty of response, but there are almost no cracks or noise.
As a matter of fact, this new master is not perfect. As expected, the recording of about 45 years ago is not without (slightly) shaking in the first three songs. However, after that, the vintage sound that shines black with a sense of immovable stability continues to spring up. There was also a slight cut (24 seconds after the end of the drum solo and 19 seconds for the break part of "Why Should I Care"). Both are parts that do not affect the performance, but in this work, we have carefully connected them with the already-released "ENCOUNTER VELOCITY" and seamlessly reproduced the full show.
